Hi everyone. Truly Judy’s Uncommon Oldies takes us to KCBQ 1170 AM in San Diego, California, to their Hit Parader Survey for the week of January 22, 1961.<\/p>\n

My artist of the week was born in Oak Hill, West Virginia.\u00a0 He moved to Miami, Florida, when he was a small boy.\u00a0 When he was 16, he attended a country barn radio show called The Old South Jamboree.\u00a0 His performance on stage there led to my artist and his band being signed to sing on the show.\u00a0 One of his band members, Donny Lytle, would later perform as Johnny Paycheck. Chet Atkins heard one of my survey artist\u2019s demo tapes and hired him in 1961.\u00a0 His first performance as a harmonica player was on the song I Just Don\u2019t Understand by Ann-Margret.\u00a0 He has played harmonica for many other acts including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Paul Simon and Ringo Starr, and he has played bass and drums as well as wind and brass instruments, also.\u00a0 He has won a Grammy Award and has taken part in more than 400 sessions a year as a studio musician. For 19 years he worked as music director for the popular television show, <\/em>Hee Haw, and was a member of the Million Dollar Band
\n<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n
