Truly Judy’s Uncommon Oldies takes us to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, to CKWX 1130 AM’s Sensational Sixty Survey to the week of January 25-February 1st, 1960.
My artist of the week was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He began singing in his local Methodist Church in Cincinnati when he was quite young. He and his group, The Seniors, sang together for about eight years. They were promoted by a local Cincinnati radio disc jockey which led to a recording contract with Fraternity Records who released their first record.
His biggest hit, My Heart Is An Open Book, went to #3 nationally in 1959. I have always loved that song as well as his follow up called If You Don’t Want My Lovin’. He also appeared on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand fourteen times and was on a local Cincinnati television program called the Bob Braun Show, as well.
On the CKWX 1130 AM, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Sensational Sixty Survey at #36 at the end of January, 1960, here is Carl Dobkins, Jr. with Lucky Devil on the Decca label.
