Judy’s Survey Tune Of the Week takes us to WCOL 1230 AM in Columbus, Ohio to June, 1963.

My survey group of the week, The Four Pennies, used several names as they were starting to record.  Their group formed in 1960 when they were students at a high school in the Bronx in New York.  Their manager, Ronald Mack, wrote their only #1 single.  It was produced by the Tokens and released on the Laurie label in 1963.  As the success of the song they had released under their other name of the Chiffons, He’s so Fine, became apparent, they eventually abandoned The Four Pennies name, and they went on to record several more songs under the Chiffons name.

On the WCOL Columbus, Ohio survey, at #26 the week of June 10th, 1963, as The Four Pennies and also on the same survey as the Chiffons at #21 with One Fine Day, here are The Four Pennies (AKA The Chiffons) with their song, My Block, on the Rust label, a Laurie subsidiary.
