This week, Truly Judy’s Uncommon Oldies takes us to February, 1967, to Radio London’s 1133 AM at Sea survey, in London, England.

My survey group, The Bats, were considered South Africa’s answer to the Beatles. They were a group of four whose lead singer, Jimmy Dunning, was also the lead guitarist. They were signed to the CBS label but weren’t sure of what name to go by until an A & R manager yelled at them that they were “all bats”. Thus, The Bats were born.

In 1966, the band went to England. In December of that year, they released a single on the Decca label and they were on Juke Box Jury that month. In February, 1967, my survey song was also released on the Decca label in South Africa and the Parrot label here in the states.

In June of 1967, the group appeared on a TV show called Dee Time, but they eventually returned to South Africa. And several of the members are still performing as The Bats today.

On the Radio London 1133 AM at Sea survey in London, England, in February, 1967, at #38, with the #1 song on this survey being Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever by the Beatles, here are The Bats with You Look Good Together on the Parrot label.
