Kan Dells

Truly Judy’s Uncommon Oldies Of the Week takes us to KDWB 630 AM in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, to February, 1965.

My artists of the week, the Kan Dells, were a combo of brothers and cousins. They formed the group in Sandstone, Minnesota. This song was intended to be the B side of the record, but it so impressed the people at the recording studio that it became the A side.

The group name was a take-off of the word “candles” because the group manager told them that they were trying to burn the candle at both ends.

On the KDWB 630 AM survey in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota, in late February, 1965, here are the Kan Dells with Cry Girl.  It was #30 on this survey chart, up from #37 the previous week, and on the Boss label.
