Truly Judy’s Uncommon Oldie for this week is from KLIF 1190 AM in Dallas, TX, on their Forty Star Survey from May 7, 1966.

My survey group, The Chessmen, were from the Dallas area and had a lot of different personnel over the years.  They were formed in early 1964 on the campus of North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, which is about 25 miles from Dallas.

They began by playing at basketball and football pre game rallies and eventually signed a contract that had them playing between movie screenings.  One of the movies was Get Yourself a College Girl.

When my survey song was recorded, it was with the third line-up of this group.  The writer of this song was Knox Henderson who also co-wrote Mouse and the Trap’s Public Execution and Maid Of Sugar, Maid Of Spice as well as You Ain’t Tuff by the Uniques among other songs.

On the KLIF Forty Star Survey at #40 in May of 1966, here are The Chessmen with You’re Gonna Be Lonely on the B.R.S. label.
