This week, Truly Judy’s Uncommon Oldies takes us to Grand Rapids, Michigan, to WLAV, 1340’s Favorite 40 for the week of October 8, 1965.
My survey group, The Jujus, were a local Grand Rapids group that started as a trio in high school doing parodies of the Beatles. The group’s name came about because group member Max “Junior” Colley’s little brother could not pronounce Junior.
The band played shows at the Ponytail in Grand Rapids and in nearby towns such as Holland and Saugatuck. They also worked out a deal with Great Lakes Recording to do their live concerts between films at the Hour Theater. They were offered recording time when the theater was closed in exchange for playing these concerts.
On the WLAV 1340 Favorite 40 survey in Grand Rapids, Michigan, at an amazing #2, topped only by Yesterday by the Beatles at #1, during the week of October 8, 1965, here are the Jujus with You Treat Me Bad on the Fenton label.
